George Armstrong (HHOF ’75)
Legendary Leafs GM Conn Smythe called George “Chief” Armstrong "the best captain, as a captain, the Leafs have ever had." Playing his entire career as a Maple Leaf, Armstrong was the team’s captain from 1957 until his retirement in 1971. It was during his tenure as captain that the Leafs won four Stanley Cups (1962, 1963, 1964, 1967), a dynasty that Leaf fans use as the benchmark for every new season.
