Jean Beliveau (HHOF ’72)
“Rarely has the career of an athlete been so exemplary.”
The Right Hon. Pierre Trudeau, Prime Minister of Canada, March 24, 1971
“Gentleman” Jean Beliveau, or “Le Gros Bil”, epitomizes all the qualities that a parent would like to see in their offspring. Starting in 1953, Beliveau played 18 seasons for the Montreal Canadiens. In those 18 years, the Canadiens made the playoffs 17 years, 16 of them consecutively. With Montreal, Beliveau won 10 Stanley Cups and appeared in 1,287 games. He won the Hart Trophy in 1956 and 1964, as well as the 1965 Conn Smythe for MVP in the playoffs. An ambassador of the game for the last 50 years, Beliveau is simply a legend.
