Clark Gillies (HHOF ’02)

One of the premier power forwards of the 70’s and 80’s, Clark Gillies teamed up with Mike Bossy and Bryan Trottier to form a lethal scoring machine.  Because of his rugged play and determination, he became the New York Islanders’ captain at 22 years old; he didn’t disappoint.  In the 1977 playoffs, he scored three consecutive game-winning goals, which tied an NHL record.  In 1980, he resigned his captaincy but still played like a leader.  Gillies stayed with the Islanders for until 1986, winning four consecutive Stanley Cups.  He then played two seasons for the Buffalo Sabres, retiring in 1988.  Over his career, he scored 791 points over 1122 games and the Islanders retired his number ‘9’ jersey in 1988.  Gillies now raises money to help physically or financially helped children though his foundation.
