Lorne Henning
The New York Islanders selected Lorne Henning with their second pick in the 1972 Amateur Draft and he saw his first NHL action the following autumn. He began to make a name for himself as a penalty killer and provider of short-handed goals. He was part of the Stanley Cup winning teams of 1980 and 1981, after which he hung up his skates. Henning moved into coaching, taking an assistant position with the Islanders in 1983-84 and then the AHL Springfield Indians in 1984-85. The Minnesota North Stars hired him as head coach, and he remained in that until 1987. In 1989, he came back to the Islanders as assistant GM. The following season, he was behind the Isles bench as an assistant. From 1995 to '98, Henning filled an assistant coaching position for the Chicago Black Hawks before once again coming home to the Island.
