Kelly Hrudy
Selected by the New York Islanders in 1980, Kelly Hrudy stayed in Billy Smith’s shadow until 1984 when he assumed the bulk of the team’s schedule. Traded to Los Angeles in 1989, he backstopped the Kings for six seasons and led them to the Stanley Cup finals in 1993. Hrudy retired in 1998 after two seasons with San Jose. Because of his outgoing style and in-depth hockey knowledge, he has become an important part of the Hockey Night in Canada team. His segments “Behind the Mask”, and “After Hours” have made Hrudy a recognizable face across Canada – something unusual for a goalie!
