Ted Lindsay (HHOF ’66)
A gifted goal-scorer who spent more time in the box than any other player of his time, “Terrible” Ted Lindsay was a small package of big hockey. Starting with the Red Wings in 1944, his numbers were ordinary until he was put onto “The Production Line” with Gordie Howe and Sid Abel. In 1950, the trio finished 1-2-3 in scoring and the Red Wings won the Stanley Cup, as they did in 1952, 1954 and 1955. Lindsay served as captain on the latter two years. In 1957, Lindsay had the best year of his career with 85 points; it was also the year that he helped organize the NHLPA. After not speaking with GM Jack Adams for three years, he was traded to Chicago as punishment for organizing. After helping the Blackhawks bring back some respectability, Lindsay retired in 1966. He eventually became general manager and head coach of the team that he led to so many glory days.
