The Hon. Frank Mahovlich (HHOF ’81)

Known as “The Big M”, Senator Frank Mahovlich spent 22 seasons of NHL greatness.  As a rookie with Toronto in 1956-57, he scored 20 goals for 38 points and won the Calder Trophy.  After adequate play over the next two seasons, he led the league in scoring in 1960-61.  He helped the Leafs win four Stanley Cups in the 60s but left the team in the next seasons because of personal problems.  Upon his return, he scored 18 seconds into his first shift.  He soon left for Detroit where he began to put up stellar numbers.  Following his brother Peter to Montreal, he improved even more; he collected 96 points in 1972 and played for Canada in the 1972 Summit Series.  He won the Cup with the Habs in 1971 and 1973 and then moved to the WHA.  He retired in 1976 and was appointed to the Canadian Senate in 1998 by Prime Minister Jean Chretien.
