Rick Martin
Blessed with speed and a lethal shot, Rick Martin went to Buffalo drafted 5th overall in 1971. That season, he broke teammate Gilbert Perreault’s NHL rookie record for goals with 44. He was picked as a reserve and became a member of the dreaded “French Connection”. In each of the two following seasons, he scored 52 goals and reached the finals in 1975. He scored three goals for Canada at the 1976 Canada Cup. In 1980, he was traded to Los Angeles; chronic back pain forced him to retire after only three games. He is now the Skill Development coach for Buffalo.
