Stan Mikita (HHOF ’83)

A slick playmaker with a gifted scoring touch, Stan Mikita played his first season in 1959-60 for the Chicago Blackhawks.  Along with Bobby Hull, he helped the Blackhawks make the playoffs for the first time in several years.  In 1961, he doubled his point total to 52, led all playoff scorers and helped the Blackhawks win the Stanley Cup.  In 1964 and 1965, he won the Art Ross trophy with 89 and 87 points respectively.  In 1967, he scored 97 points and won the trio of the Art Ross, the Hart and the Lady Byng trophies.  This is significant because he was always considered a ‘chippy’ player before that season.  Mikita continued to contributed and played in the 1972 Summit Series.  In 1973, he reached 83 points even though he missed a quarter of a season.  He retired in 1980 as one of hockey’s most prolific scorers.
