Barry Melrose
Biography
Although he was drafted by Montreal in 1976, Barry Melrose realized that he had little chance of cracking the powerhouse’s roster. Instead he went to the WHA’s Cincinnati Stingers for three seasons. Picked up by Quebec in the expansion draft, Melrose was promptly traded to the Winnipeg Jets. After only a season, he was waived and picked up by Toronto. Three years later, he moved to Detroit. After being bounced to the minors in 1986, Melrose spent several years in the minors. He became the Los Angeles Kings’ head coach in 1992 and led them to the Stanley Cup finals that year. He is now a hockey commentator for ESPN and ABC.
