Jack Nicklaus
Biography
Widely regarded as the greatest golfer of all time, Jack Nicklaus was born on January 21st 1940. Raised in Upper Arlington, Ohio, Nicklaus was a natural at golf from the time he first played at age 10, when he shot 51 in his first 9 holes ever played. Beginning at age 12, Nicklaus would win 5 straight Ohio State junior titles and qualified for the U.S. Junior Amateur tournament at age 13. While a student at Ohio State University, Nicklaus won 2 U.S. Amateur titles and the 1961 NCAA Championship. Nicklaus joined the PGA Tour in 1962 and collected his first professional win at the 1962 U.S. Open, defeating Arnold Palmer by 3 shots in a playoff round. Nicklaus would go on to accumulate a total of 18 major championships and also has 19 second and 9 third place finishes. Nicklaus ranks third on the all time PGA victories list with 73, behind Sam Snead and Tiger Woods. Throughout his career, Nicklaus is an 8 time leader of the PGA Money List and won 5 PGA Tour Player of the Year awards. Nicklaus has also been the recipient of several awards, including the 1975 Bob Jones Award, 2000 Payne Stewart Award, 2008 PGA Tour Lifetime Achievement Award and he received a Congressional Gold Medal in 2015. Nicklaus was inducted into the World Golf Hall of Fame in 1974. Nicklaus and his wife Barbara currently reside in North Palm Beach, Florida.
