Biography

After a short, yet outstanding showing in the OHL, Kirk Muller was drafted by New Jersey in 1982 and earned 54 points in his rookie year. Missing only seven games over four seasons, Kirk quickly gained a reputation for his fine leadership qualities both on and off the ice. As captain of the Montreal Canadiens, Kirk led his team to a Stanley Cup victory in 1993. In 2003, after enduring 19 NHL seasons between 6 teams and totaling 357 goals, 959 points in 1349 career games, Kirk retired. However, with such a passion for the game, he could not give it up altogether. Kirk began his coaching career in the ’05/ ’06 Season with the Queen’s University Golden Gaels. Following a great season with the Gaels, Kirk was hired as the Assistant Coach with the Montreal Canadiens. In 2011, Kirk got his first NHL head coaching gig when the Carolina Hurricanes named him their head coach. He held this position until 2014. Currently, Kirk is an assistant coach with the St. Louis Blues.
