Mike Gillis is probably better known for his work off the ice than on it. A utility player who swung back and forth between the minor leagues and time with Colorado and Boston, Gillis’ career ended after an injury in 1984. When former hockey agent Alan Eagleson defrauded him of $40,000 in insurance money, Gillis sued and won a significantly greater sum. This incident steeled his resolve and Gillis became a player agent. After a becoming a agent to several prominent NHL players, Gillis became the GM of the Vancouver Canucks in 2008 and held this position until 2014.
