Mike Murphy
Biography
Drafted by the New York Rangers in 1970 but was traded to St. Louis after refusing to play in the minors. He spent two seasons in St. Louis, returned to the Rangers for 31 games and then spent his final 10 seasons with the Los Angeles Kings. Retiring in 1983, he spent five years as a head coach in L.A., including two seasons as head coach. He became an assistant with Vancouver and head coach of their IHL affiliate. In 1991, he joined the Leafs coaching staff and was their head coach from 1996-1998. He spent a year with the Ottawa Senators before becoming the NHL’s Vice President of League Operations.
