Ron Hoggarth
Biography
A native of Barrie, Ron Hoggarth was a highly regarded baseball and hockey player before his career as an NHL referee. Once scouted by the Philadelphia Phillies, Hoggarth led his teams to several baseball championships. In hockey, Hoggarth played Jr. B and Jr. C before attending McMaster University, where he played hockey on the varsity team. Hoggarth began refereeing in high school, and by 1969, was refereeing in the OHA. Signed by the NHL in 1971, Hoggarth officiated 550 games in the AHL and CHL before wearing the stripes in 1175 NHL games and an additional 150 playoff games. Hoggarth also refereed 35 international games and the 1989 NHL All Star game before retiring in 1994. Hoggarth is currently a highly regarded public speaker and is very active in a wide variety of charitable endeavors.
