Biography

Born in Minneapolis, Minnesota, Zach Parise is the son of the late J.P. Parise. J.P. was a professional hockey player and coach himself, having played 890 career NHL games and served as an assistant coach with the Minnesota North Stars for several years. After playing high school hockey for the famed Shattuck St. Mary’s prep school, the same school as Sidney Crosby, Parise would play 2 seasons of NCAA hockey at the University of North Dakota. After his freshman season, the New Jersey Devils drafted Parise 17thoverall in the 2003 NHL Draft. After 1 more season at North Dakota, Parise would turn pro for the 2004/05 season, but spent the season in the AHL due to the NHL Lockout. Upon joining the Devils for the 2005/06 season, Parise instantly became 1 of the top offensive players on the Devils. His 94 points in 82 games in 2008/09 is currently a career high for Parise. Named the Devils captain for the 2011/12 season, Parise helped lead the team to the Stanley Cup Finals, losing to the Los Angeles Kings in 6 games. That off season, Parise signed with his hometown team, the Minnesota Wild as a free agent, with whom he currently serves as an assistant captain.
