Cody was born in Toronto but spent most of his early years in Haliburton ON, but his family returned to the Toronto area in the late ‘90s. He would player junior in Brampton and held many scoring records as he led the Battalion to the OHL finals in 2009. Cody represented Canada at the 2009 World Juniors and lead the tournament in scoring and winning Gold with Canada. Drafted by the Vancouver Canucks 10th overall in 2008, he would make his NHL debut in 2011. He would spend over two years in the Canucks system before a surprise trade to Buffalo in 2012. With the Sabres Cody had good production totals before injuries started to impact his ability to play. One more attempt to play at the NHL level with Nashville and in 2016 retired from the NHL. He was not diagnosed properly until his final year with malignant hyperthermia, caused by a mutation of his RYR1 gene. He would stay with the Predators front office and helped with kids’ programs and created awareness for the disease that cost him his career.
