James van Riemsdyk is an American professional ice hockey player born on May 4, 1989, in Middletown, New Jersey. He is a left winger known for his scoring ability and strong net-front presence. He made his NHL debut with the Flyers in the 2009-2010 season, showcasing his offensive skills early on. In his rookie season, he tallied 35 points in 78 games. Despite a promising start in Philadelphia, he was traded to the Toronto Maple Leafs in 2012 in exchange for defenseman Luke Schenn. Van Riemsdyk found his stride with the Maple Leafs, becoming a consistent goal scorer and earning a reputation as a reliable forward. He recorded three consecutive 50-plus point seasons from 2013 to 2016, including a career-high 62 points in the 2016-2017 season. In 2018, he returned to the Philadelphia Flyers, signing a five-year contract with the team. He continued to be a productive player for the Flyers, contributing offensively and serving as a veteran presence on the team.
