Maurice William Mantha Jr., born on January 21, 1961, is a former professional ice hockey defenseman who enjoyed a twelve-season career in the National Hockey League (NHL). Throughout his career, he played for various teams including the Winnipeg Jets, Pittsburgh Penguins, Edmonton Oilers, Minnesota North Stars, and Philadelphia Flyers. Mantha began his professional career with the Toronto Marlboros before being drafted by the NHL's Winnipeg Jets in 1980. He played for several NHL teams and their minor league affiliates, showcasing his defensive skills on the ice. Following his retirement as a player in 1993, Mantha transitioned into coaching. He coached various teams in the AHL, ECHL, and junior hockey leagues, including the Windsor Spitfires of the Ontario Hockey League (OHL) and the Saginaw Spirit of the OHL. Mantha's coaching career also extended to the North American Hockey League (NAHL), where he served as head coach and general manager for teams like the Brookings Blizzard and St. Cloud Blizzard before retiring in 2020.
