The tallest player for many years in the NHL was known as the “Little M” due to his brother Frank already labelled as the Big M. Pete was selected 2nd overall by the Red Wings in 1963. He spent parts of 4 seasons in Detroit before moving to Montreal. In the ’71 season Mahovlich would finally secure a regular spot and recorded 35 goals plus another 10 in the playoffs as the Habs won the Stanley Cup. This earned him an invite the’72 Summit Series, going on to win the heavily contested series against Russia. He won four Stanley Cups with Montreal and topped 100 points twice during that tenure. In 1977, he was traded to Pittsburgh and was a fan favourite, then finished his career back with the Red Wings in ’81. He played 972 NHL Games and recorded 845 points.
