Tommy John

A pitcher who lasted for 22 seasons, Tommy John played with Cleveland, the Chicago White Sox, Los Angeles Dodgers, New York Yankees, California Angels and Oakland A’s.  He played his last game at 46 years of age in an attempt to 300 wins.  He made the World Series three times (twice with Los Angeles, once with the Yankees) and was an effective post-season hurler, posting a 2.65 ERA over 14 games (12 as a starter).  His best year was 1979 where he only surrendered nine home runs over 276 innings, finishing the season with 21 wins.  After getting ligament damage in his elbow, doctors performed an experimental procedure that became known as Tommy John surgery.   The surgery allowed John to continue pitching well into his forties.
